Foreign interest in Spanish properties showed massive increase in 2015

04/04/2016

Anyone seeking the services of a real estate agency in Sotogrande is likely to take an interest in the latest figures suggesting that they are not alone in flocking to the Spanish property market in recent months.

Indeed, Spanish homes really do seem to be 'hot property' for foreign investors in particular, so we would urge interested buyers to act quickly to ensure that their desired house, villa or apartment in the especially in-demand area of Sotogrande is not immediately snapped up.

Nothing but positive news for the Spanish property market

Data from the Spanish Ministry of Public Works showed that the amount of foreign buyers choosing to purchase homes in Spain rose by 13% during 2015, equivalent to 69,196 homes bought. These purchases also accounted for 18% - almost one in five - of all homes sold in the country last year.

By comparison, the average increase in the volume of foreign citizens choosing to purchase homes in Spain is 9.8%, as was registered last year, indicating that the Spanish property market of 2015 and into 2016 is one firmly in rude health.

What about the financial side of things?

These transactions came to an impressive total of 9,918.6 million Euros at the end of 2015, compared to 8,637.9 million Euros being made in 2014. This equated to an increase of 15%.

However, some regional differences were shown in the report, Valencia being the region of choice for most foreign buyers, with a total of 20,219 properties sold. 1,665 of these homes were acquired by non-residents.

Andalucía, where Sotogrande is located, came second. 14,384 homes were registered to foreign buyers in 2015 - 1,854 non-residents. Catalonia wasn’t so far behind, with 10,264 homes being sold to foreign buyers, 186 of them non-residents.

Stellar figures throughout the other regions

The Canary Islands, Balearic Islands and Madrid had 7,295, 5,061, and 4,951 foreign buyers acquire homes respectively – all still rather impressive figures, representing further good news for the Spanish property market and those looking to purchase property here.

With the increase in people choosing to invest in property in Spain being ever so obvious, there really is no better time to purchase or rent a property in Sotogrande.
